Hello! I'm Alex (She/Her) & I am Seaside Doula.

I live in sunny Worthing with my wife and two young children.. I absolutely love living by the sea and when not doula-ing, can usually be found exploring nature with my kids.

My journey to becoming a doula

I’ve always been obsessed with pregnancy and birth, and when I was younger dreamt of being a midwife.. but becoming a mother and navigating my own birth and postnatal experiences ultimately inspired me to become a doula

After my son was born in 2020, I became aware of the expectation for mums and parents to do it all (and immediately know how to) - this was apparent when the care I'd received through the hospital during pregnancy disappeared almost entirely once my baby was born. Friends and family helped when they could, but of course have their own busy lives. Despite having a very hands on partner, I fell into the cycle of not resting when I should have been recovering from birth and living off of biscuits... I needed a village!

There were many times I'd felt overwhelmed and confused by the often conflicting information I'd seen, and advice I was given by professionals, friends and family. I questioned everything I was doing, and spent many a 3am googling things like "how long should my breastfed baby be feeding for?" to be met with dozens of answers, but there was nobody to listen to the question I was really asking, which I now realise was "how do I know my baby is getting enough milk?". I needed wisdom and I needed nurturing.

Through talking with other parents, I've discovered that this is a very common experience.. During my second pregnancy, I learned that in many cultures, new mums and family are cared for after birth, the housework is taken care of, nutritious food is brought and the baby is held so mum can rest and recuperate.... that sounded excellent to me! This is when I learned about postnatal doulas.

On reflection, I know i'd have really benefitted from a doula for birth and postpartum, which inspired me to provide this support and train as a doula.

At the end of my second maternity leave I took the leap to follow my calling to become a doula and I quit my job in tech.

I have come to realise that the village might not look how you imagined. But those parents you meet at a weekly play group, the mum who watches your baby so you can nip to the loo and the doula who makes you soup and supports you through the ups and downs become your village, even if it's just for that moment. We weren't meant to do this alone

My training & credentials

I completed my birth and postpartum doula training with Developing Doulas in early 2025 and I have been supporting friends through fertility treatment, pregnancy and postpartum for years. I have trained for both birth and postnatal, however my services currently focus on the postpartum period.

There are many subjects I wish to further my knowledge on and have a keen interest in, these include but are certainly not limited to breastfeeding support and supporting LGBTQ+ families. I have chosen to be supported by an experienced mentor as I build my practice and while I’m part of the mentoring program, I offer my services at a discounted rate. Read more about my services here. I am fully insured and have an up to date DBS certificate.

In addition to at home support, I also provide doula support at Kin pilates and Mamatime.

As your doula

I’m passionate about helping all kinds of families through the early days with a new baby (or babies!)—offering reassurance, practical help, nutritious meals, space for rest and self-care, and a listening ear who can signpost you to relevant information and services where necessary. I'm here to help you feel confident in your maternal instinct and supported in your choices. I am non-judgemental, I will respect your individual choices and make sure you are heard.

My goal is to support you in finding your own path and rhythm, so you can bond with your baby and soak in this glorious and sometimes very exhausting moment in life.
